Voice Lessons
Your voice lessons are where we will work on key vocal skills that will improve your singing ability! This includes:
- Finding your unique voice and style.
- Vocal warm-ups to ready your voice and teach basic technique.
- Ear training: how to match pitch, recognize lower and higher registers, and more by ear.
- Musical theory training to understand the mechanics behind music.
- Developing your singing skills through specific songs you select.
We offer weekly 30 minute or 45 minute lessons.
Introductory Lesson
Upon registering, we will book you for an introductory lesson that will give you a chance to meet our voice instructor, Danica, visit the studio, ask questions, and learn more about what lessons will look like. We will cover what to expect in lessons and live performances, go over studio policies and payments, and arrange your weekly lesson time. This is a great way to get started and see if voice lessons are right for you!
**A $40 booking deposit is required when scheduling your intro lesson. This deposit will be credited to your account once you begin lessons with the studio. This deposit is non-refundable if you no-show for your introductory lesson.**

At Tyrer Vocal Studio there are many ways to showcase your vocal skills through live performances! These performances are optional but strongly encouraged as they provide something to work towards when building your singing skills.
Our live performance opportunities include:
- Open-mic events, held bi-monthly, offer a more casual atmosphere, but are a great way to get comfortable performing for an audience. Highly recommended for beginner performers.
- The Winter Showcase, held mid December, offers an intimate, and warm environment for showcasing what you’ve learned so far. It is also a festive way to end the winter vocal lesson semester.
- The Summer Showcase, held at the end of August, gives our summer students a chance to show off what they’ve been working on all summer. Usually hosted outside at our studio location and accompanied by snacks and refreshments.
- The Year End Recital is our big, formal performance for invited friends and family to cap off the vocal lesson year. Here you will perform on a beautiful stage and be accompanied by a live pianist. Be prepared to shine!
- The Grande Prairie and District Music Festival, which you can learn more about below.
Each year at the year end recital we also have a group of students that performs an ensemble song together. This is a wonderful opportunity for students who are working on their confidence to participate in a live performance.

About the GPDMF
The music festival is not limited to just Grande Prairie. It happens throughout the province of Alberta and all throughout Canada as well. The Grande Prairie and District Music Festival is usually held in early Apri and gives young local musicians of all disciplines the opportunity to be adjudicated by some of the best musical professionals in the province. Local festival winners can go on to perform at the provincial level, with provincials being held mid-May. Those who excel at the provincial level can even be recommended to compete at the national level.
Visit the Grande Prairie and District Music Festival website for more information and to learn about its history.
Music Festival Participation
For Tyrer Vocal Studio students, the local music festival is a great opportunity to perform in a competitive environment and learn what is takes to prepare for a more intensive performance experience. It is also a great way to refine your performing skills in front of an audience of your peers and receive feedback from other vocal professionals.
Participation in the music festival requires extensive preparation and commitment from both students and parents. Students will choose a song (or songs) in early September to work on throughout the lesson year. There will be additional fees, extra lessons, and rehearsal times to prepare students for their performances in early April. Additionally, in order to participate, a live piano accompanist is required and will be provided by Tyrer Vocal Studio.
